A grinder is a grinding machine that grinds the surface of a workpiece with a grinding tool coated or embedded with abrasives. It is mainly used to grind high-precision flat surfaces, internal and external cylindrical surfaces, conical surfaces, spherical surfaces, threaded surfaces and other profile surfaces in workpieces. The main types of grinders are disc grinders, rotary shaft grinders and various special grinders.

Working principle of single-sided grinder:

The material to be ground and polished is placed on the grinding disc, the grinding disc rotates against the clock, the correction wheel drives the workpiece to rotate, gravity pressure is applied to the workpiece, and the workpiece and the grinding disc make relative running friction to achieve the purpose of grinding and polishing. The grinding disc dressing mechanism adopts hydraulic suspension guide for back and forth reciprocating movement, and the diamond dressing knife gives precision dressing to the grinding surface of the grinding disc to get the ideal plane effect.

The working principle of double-sided grinding machine:

The upper and lower grinding discs rotate in opposite directions, and the workpiece is in the carrier for both the revolution and rotation of the wandering star movement. The grinding resistance is small and does not damage the workpiece, and the productivity is high with even grinding on both sides. With the grating thickness control system, the thickness tolerance of the processed product can be controlled. The device of the double-sided grinder includes two grinding discs, a swivel wheel, four motors, a sun wheel, and a surface finisher. Compared with the two, the construction of double-sided lapping machine is relatively more complicated, but if the workpiece that needs to be ground on both sides is ground by double-sided machine than single-sided machine, the efficiency is invariably twice as fast. The birth and development of this double-sided grinding machine has brought improvements to the production efficiency of many industries. It is used more in the optical glass industry for silicon wafers, sapphire substrates, epitaxial wafers, etc.
